We’re now a Certified B Corporation

Our team have always worked toward transforming our world into a better one, to use business as a force for good. It was in 2019 during the Covid-19 pandemic that highlighted to us that the path we are on is the right one and really cemented our mission. By putting the planet, people and animals at the centre we ensure that there is a future for the hair and beauty industry. Becoming B Corp certified solidifies this commitment, but what exactly does this all mean?

What is B Corp?

Certified B Corporations (B Corps) are part of an initiative from B Lab, a non-profit that serves a global movement. Their goal? To transform the global economy to benefit all people, communities, and the planet. Consumers have become more aware of the impact their shopping habits have, now only buying from companies whose values align with theirs. The B Corp logo has become a trusted and globally recognisable mark. This is the mark of a brand that believes in using their business as a force for good balancing people, planet and profit. There are 4,405 B Corps worldwide with only 408 of those Australian. We're so proud to join this amazing community and this impressive list!

What does this certification mean?

B Corps are businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. The B Corp certification is holistic, not exclusively focussed on a single social or environmental issue and has five key pillars - governance, workers' rights, community, environment and customers. It also allows like-minded business across various industries to benchmark themselves against the very best ethical and sustainable peers around the globe.

How did we score?

Based on the B Impact assessment, we earned an overall score of 80.7. The median score for ordinary businesses who complete the assessment is currently 50.9.

The process to achieve and maintain this certification is rigorous. We are required to recertify every three years to not only confirm the B Corp standards continue to be met, but also show we have made further improvements. Becoming better is a never ending journey and we're here for the long haul.

What does this mean for our Salon Partner’s?

We wouldn’t be here without your contribution. Together, our message becomes louder, our positive impact is magnified and we can lead the entire industry into a better future.

The Sustainable Development Goals

We take seriously our social and environmental responsibility, ensuring we do business in ways that benefit, rather than harm, society and reduce our footprint on the planet. We are proud to be an active participant in the 2030 Agenda. The 2030 Agenda is made up of The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that form a road map for achieving a happier and healthier world by 2030 and beyond. Our team have always worked toward transforming our world into a better one, so this agenda is well-aligned with our interests - especially since we have significant influence supplying to consumers and salons across Australia and New Zealand.

We make deliberate decisions regarding our systems, products, education and partners ensuring we are continually working towards the goals listed below:

GOAL 3
Good health and well-being
Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.

Every day, we are exposed to around 126 chemicals through hair and beauty products. Salon workers are especially vulnerable as they work with these chemicals for hours everyday. These chemicals are harmful to our health often linked to cancer and other health problems. We stand strong on not allowing any harsh chemicals within our products to keep it as natural as possible. As the saying goes, beautiful inside and out.

GOAL 10
Reduced inequalities
Reduce inequality within and among countries.

We stand against modern slavery and human trafficking in Australia. There is an estimated 15,000 females and males living life right now, in ‘our lucky country’ Australia, in completely terrifying circumstances. Salons are also popular places where modern slavery and human trafficking crimes occur.

We are proud to help The Freedom Hub to help raise funds to support survivors and raise awareness about this issue. Together with our Salon Partner’s and The Freedom Hub we can make a huge leap towards eradicating modern slavery and human trafficking in Australia - a FREE Australia.

GOAL 12
Responsible consumption and production
Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.

Revenue in the Beauty & Personal Care market in 2020 amounts to approximately $9,210m. It’s time for businesses within the hair and beauty industry to evaluate their production process and re-think their consumption. In offering a better alternative to salons it also gives us an opportunity to educate the industry (salon staff) and consumers/clients on what it means to consume consciously.

GOAL 13
Climate action
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.

We are in the middle of a climate emergency. To ensure that there is a future for the hair and beauty industry we need to make changes as a collective. We want to help lead the way to a more responsible and healthy industry. Our products prove that you don’t need to make a comprise between performance, quality and style that costs the planet.

GOAL 14
Life below water
Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.

Toxic chemicals used in hair and beauty products are not only dangerous to our own bodies, but the damage it causes doesn’t stop when it washes down the drain. Another reason why we stand strong on not allowing any harsh chemicals within our products to keep it as natural as possible.

GOAL 15
Life on land
Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.

Ingredients that are within the products are just as important as the ingredients that aren’t included.

GOAL 17
Partnerships for the goals
Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalise the global partnership for sustainable development.

The UN has declared our current situation a ‘planetary crisis’ and no industry is exempt from scrutiny. It’s going to take a collaborative effort and there are countless issues surrounding different industries. We choose to work with and purchase from like-minded businesses and individuals.

Within our own industry, we are here to guide and support our Salon Partner’s on their sustainable journey. Making changes (big and small) to the way a salon is run can make such a difference. With every new Salon Partner, our message and impact becomes bigger and we can lead the entire industry into the future.
